PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team stepped out of conference play on Friday afternoon as the Cardinals fell to SUNY Geneseo, 8-1, at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the defeat, Fisher, which entered the day having won four of its last five matches, fell to 4-3 on the season while the Knights remained perfect at 6-0.
In singles play, the Cardinals' lone point came in the first flight with
Kaili Saffran taking the opening set, 6-2, before holding on to take a point behind a 7-6 decision in the second set.
In doubles play, Fisher was competitive, but unable to pick up any momentum as the Knights claimed all three points. Saffran and teammate
Cassidy Bell were bested at first doubles, 8-3, while
Veronika Jurczuk and
Mikayla Santulli were downed, 8-4. At third doubles,
Jacqueline Chouinard and
Valerie Morgans suffered an 8-2 setback.
The Cardinals will return to Empire 8 play at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to the reigning conference champion, Nazareth College.
