WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team made its way to Massachusetts on Sunday to take on one of the top teams in Division III as the Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Williams College at Williamson Field. With the loss, Fisher, which had posted four straight wins entering the day, slipped to 4-1 on the year while the Ephs improved to 4-1.
Williams got on the board midway through the first period and never looked back as the hosts would double their advantage in the closing minutes of the quarter to take a two-goal lead into the second period.
From there, Williams would tack on two more goals before halftime to hold a 4-0 edge at the break.
As the second half got underway, the Cardinals' defense found its footing and held the Ephs scoreless over the final 30 minutes of play, however, the offense was unable to get on the board in the non-conference tilt.
In all, the high-powered Cardinals' offense was limited to just one shot on the day with
Reghan Amoroso being credited with the attempt.
Kelly Bergamo was handed the defeat in goal to move to 4-1 on the year after the Liverpool native came away with seven saves in all.
Fisher will look to get back to its winning ways at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Ithaca College for another non-conference bout.
