Men's Soccer Falls to Brockport in Home Opener

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team came up short on Wednesday afternoon in its home opener as the Cardinals fell to The College at Brockport, 2-0, on the turf inside Growney Stadium.  With the loss, Fisher dipped to 0-5 on the year while the Golden Eagles closed out the afternoon at 4-1 overall.

After playing to a scoreless first half, it would be Brockport that got on the board first as the visitors scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal just 45 seconds into the second period.  The Golden Eagles continued to control the pace of play and eventually doubled their lead in the 53rd minute after a through ball found its mark to make it a two-goal affair.

As the half wore on, Fisher looked to push the tempo, but was unable to generate much on the offensive end of the pitch as the Golden Eagles held on for the non-conference victory.

In all, Fisher was credited with four shots with Ishaan Kashyap, Brennan Brown, Justin Bonetto and Ben Woolingham each taking one apiece.

Aaron Smith was tagged with the loss in net despite making a career-high 11 saves over 90 minutes of play.

Fisher will look to earn its first win of the season at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Buffalo State College to take on the Bengals in a non-conference tilt.
