Second Half Goal Sinks Men's Soccer in Season Debut

GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team was upended in its season opener on Friday night as the Cardinals fell at Geneseo, 1-0, at College Stadium.  With the defeat, Fisher moved to 0-1 on the year while the Knights improved to 1-0.

After a scoreless first half of play, the home team netted what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 54th minute after a corner kick found its mark.

Trailing by a goal and with time winding down, Justin Miles found some breathing room and let off a shot in the 77th minute, but it was corralled by the Knights' keeper to preserve the lead.

As time ticked down, Fisher was unable to generate anything on the offensive end of the pitch as Geneseo earned the non-conference win.

In all, Fisher was credited with four shots on the night with two being on goal.  Miles had two shots while Drew Ksanznak and Joe Pearce each finished with one shot.

In goal, Aaron Smith was tagged with the loss (0-1) after making five saves over 90 minutes of play.

Fisher will look to even its season record at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it travels to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on Susquehanna University in another non-conference tilt.
