No. 11 Women's Lacrosse Set To Host The Opening Rounds Of Its Eighth Consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance

PITTSFORD, N.Y. –The No 11 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team is set to make its eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament as the Cardinals earned their automatic bid with their Empire 8 Conference Championship title last weekend.

With its 18-1 overall record, Fisher was selected to host the First and Second Rounds of the championship for the first time in the program's storied history. The Cardinals will take the field at Growney Stadium in the Second Round on Sunday at 1 p.m. and will take on the winner of Saturday's First Round matchup between The College at Brockport and SUNY Canton.

Fans unable to make to campus this weekend can follow all the action live using the links posted below.

Welcome Back: Sunday will mark the eighth consecutive season that Head Coach Linda Michele's team will take part in the NCAA Division III Tournament as the Cardinals have won the past eight Empire 8 Conference titles. With a chance to host the Third Round matchup with a win on Sunday, Fisher will look to earn its way past the Second Round for the first time in program history.

Eight Must Be the Lucky Number: Aside from it being the eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for Fisher, eight Cardinals were also named All-Conference honorees by the Empire 8 Conference earlier this week. Molly Tice was named the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year, while Sydney DeGirolamo was honored as the Rookie of the Year. This list also includes four other First Team honorees including Mallory Eymer, Mary Grace Doyle, Hayley Maguire, and Logan Chase. Erin Mills and Emily Thompson round out the selections as they were named to the Second Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention list respectively.

Either Way Works: Fisher has been dominant on both sides of the field this season as its defense is ranks first in all of Division III with only a 4.21 goals against average, while also ranking sixth in the country with a 11.53 scoring margin.  The Cardinals also have been dominant on the offensive end as well, averaging 14.95 goals per game, while five student-athletes have posted 24 or more goals thus far.

The Streak Lives On: March 5thmay feel like a long time ago, but that was the last time Fisher dropped a game as the Cardinals have won their last 17 matchups. After falling in overtime to No. 7 York College in Clearwater, Florida, Fisher has claimed 10 straight wins on its home turf, while also scoring 15 or more goals in nine of the 16 games.

Scouting Brockport: These two teams met just a few weeks back in Brockport as Fisher came away with a 14-5 victory in non-conference action. The Golden Eagles earned their first ever spot in the 36-team field with a 13-4 victory in the SUNYAC Championship over No. 23 SUNY Geneseo. The team currently holds a 15-4 overall record and is led by leading scorer Heather Conklin, who has tallied 69 goals, 10 assists, and 115 draw controls in 19 games this season Brockport will be making its NCAA Tournament debut on Saturday at 1 p.m. versus SUNY Canton.

Scouting SUNY Canton: Also making its NCAA Tournament debut is SUNY Canton, who earned its way into the field of 36 with a 19-4 victory over the University of Maine-Farmington in the North Atlantic Conference Championship game. The Roos bring in a 14-5 overall record into the First Round matchup with Brockport and are led by junior Molly Denny, who has notched 57 goals, 33 assists, and 15 free-position goals this season.
