Men's Tennis Extends Winning Streak to Five on Senior Day

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team sent its seniors off in style on Saturday as the Cardinals won their fifth consecutive match after defeating Oswego State, 8-1, in the team's regular season finale inside Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.  With the win, Fisher improved to 6-9 on the season while the Lakers fell to 5-7.

Prior to the contest, Fisher honored its three seniors and thanked them for their contributions to the program as Jonathan Harper, Jarrett Pelton and John Miller were each honored.

The Cardinals will put their winning streak on the line next weekend when they play for an Empire 8 Championship on their home court.  Fisher, which earned the third overall seed, will take on second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon.

In doubles play, head coach Linda Gohagan's team took all three flights with Harper and Dustin McCullough taking first doubles, 8-4.  Miller paired with Pelton for an 8-2 victory at second doubles while Tim Christman and Jordan O'Connell came out on top at third doubles, 8-3.

In singles competition, Miller put away his opponent in the first flight, 6-3, 6-0.  Harper followed suit at third doubles behind a 6-2, 6-1, win while Pelton surrendered just one point in a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing in the fourth flight.

In fifth singles play, Christman was the winner, 6-1, 6-1, while O'Connell capped the win with a 6-0, 6-2 decision at sixth singles.
