PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team had its season come to a close on Friday as the third-seeded Cardinals fell to second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the loss, Fisher, which had entered the postseason having won its last five matches, concluded the 2019 season at 6-10 overall.
Stevens will advance to take on top-seeded Houghton College at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the conference crown on the line.
Dustin McCullough and
Jonathan Harper were engaged in a battle at first doubles as the duo came up just short in an 8-7 outcome.
Jordan O'Connell and
Tim Christman fell at third doubles while
John Miller and
Jarrett Pelton lost, 8-2 at second doubles.
In singles play, Miller was undone, 6-1, 6-1, while Harper was unable to stave off elimination with a loss at second singles.
