ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team continued to roll on Wednesday as the Cardinals defeated Alfred University, 8-1, in an Empire 8 match at the William T. Brown Tennis Courts. With the win, Fisher, which has now posted four straight victories, improved to 5-9 on the season and 5-2 in the conference while the Saxons fells to 6-5, 3-3, respectively.
The Cardinals took two points in doubles play with
Dustin McCullough and
Jonathan Harper combining for an 8-2 decision at first doubles.
Jarrett Pelton and
John Miller followed suit at third doubles behind an 8-6 triumph.
In singles play, Fisher took all six flights as Miller benefited from a forfeit win at first singles. At second singles, McCullough won his fourth straight pairing after taking down his opponent, 6-4, 6-3. The Cardinals received another point at third singles as Harper cleaned up, 6-2, 6-2 while Pelton earned a win at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Tim Christman was a winner at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-1 and
Jordan O'Connell came out ahead at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Fisher will wrap up its regular season schedule at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Oswego State at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club in what will mark senior day for the team.
