No. 13 Women's Lacrosse Secures Empire 8 Conference Regular Season Title With 21-7 Win Over Stevens

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 13 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team clinched the Empire 8 Conference regular season title on Saturday afternoon with a 21-7 victory over Stevens at Growney Stadium. With the conference win, Fisher improves to 13-1 overall on the season and a perfect 6-0 in the Empire 8 standings, while the Ducks fall to 6-9 and 4-2 in conference play.

The win over Stevens also marks the 12th in a row for Linda Michele's team, which ties the program's record for consecutive victories, set last season in 2018. Over the course of its winning streak, Fisher has scored 20 or more goals four times, while allowing less than 10 goals in 11 of the 12 matchups.

Seven different Cardinals tallied multi-point games versus the Ducks as Mary Grace Doyle led the way with five goals and one assist, while Allison Rupp added four assists and six points.

Fisher got the game's goal scoring started at the 27:14 mark of the opening half as Mallory Eymer scored her 38th goal of the season.

Following a Stevens answering goal at the 26:32 mark, the Cardinals would score the game's next five goals over the ensuing 10 minutes of game time. Over that time span, Doyle found the back of the net three times, while Eymer and Jenna Lippert also scored to increase Fisher's lead to 6-1.

As the first half continued, Stevens battled back to within three goals as both sides traded a pair of goals, with Logan Chase picking up her first tally of the game at the 11:20 mark.

From there, the Cardinals put four more goals up on the scoreboard before the first half concluded, while the Ducks would only score one more time before the horn sounded. Pushing the Fisher lead to 11-5 before the halftime break included goals from Rupp, Eymer, Doyle, and Emily Thompson.

Fisher continued its goal scoring as the second half of action got underway as the Cardinals opened the second 30 minutes with five consecutive goals. Over the opening nine minutes of play, goal scorers included Doyle, Rupp, Thompson, Olivia Marziale, and Sydney DeGirolamo.

Once again both sides traded goals over the next seven minutes of game time as a tally from another goal from Thompson gave Fisher a 10-goal advantage.

Over the course of the final nine minutes of action, the Cardinals would find the back of the net four more times as Thompson, Chase, Maria Hristodoulou, and Brittany Halpin secured the Cardinals 13th victory of the season.

Hayley Maguire led the Cardinal defense with a game-high three caused turnovers, while DeGirolamo added seven draw controls and three assists. As a team, Fisher caused 26 total
Stevens turnovers and also 13-15 on clear attempts throughout the game.

Morgan Hayes was credited with her fourth win of the season in goal for the Cardinals as the junior saw just over 40 minutes of action, finishing with two saves.

Fisher will look to keep its winning streak alive when it returns to action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on the road at Alfred University in another Empire 8 Conference matchup.
