ALFRED, N.Y. – The No. 12 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team kept its winning-streak alive on Tuesday afternoon as the Cardinals took down Alfred University by a score of 24-1 for their 13th consecutive victory. With the win, Fisher sets a program record for consecutive victories in a single-season, while also moving to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in the Empire 8. With the loss, the Saxons fall to 12-12 overall on the season and 0-7 in conference play.
Today's victory marks the fourth time
Linda Michele's team has scored more than 20 goals, while also allowing five or less in a single game.
Mallory Eymer led the Cardinal offense with a game-high four goals, whole freshman
Sydney DeGirolamo added one goal and five assists. 17 different Cardinals found the back of the net throughout the game, with Eymer,
Mary Grace Doyle,
Brittany Halpin, and
Maria Hristodoulou all notching multi-goal performances.
Fisher started its goal scoring early and often in the conference matchup as the Cardinals were able to put eight goals past the Alfred goalkeeper within the first 10-minutes of action. Early goal scorers included Doyle, Eymer, Halpin,
Olivia Marziale, and
Allison Rupp.
Trailing 9-1, Alfred tallied its first goal of the game at the 18:05 mark, however it was quickly answered with 10 more Fisher goals before the first half concluded. The offense continued to roll as the remaining first half goals scores included DeGirolamo, Hristodoulou,
Molly Tice,
Hayley Maguire,
Molly Rourke,
Bianca Giacona,
Logan Chase, and
Sara Roman.
Brenna Wilson would open-up the Cardinals goal scoring in the second half, while four others would find the back of the net before the final horn sounded. Scoring the final four goals for the Cardinals were Halpin,
Emily Thompson,
Kathleen Salanger, and
Alexandra Kopcza.
As a team, Fisher attempted 49 shots throughout the game, putting 35 on goal, while also posting 24 ground ball and 23 draw controls.
The Cardinals defense showed its dominance as well, causing 17 Alfred turnovers as Maguire led the way with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Claudia Mocciaro was credited with her 10th win of the season after seeing the first half of action with one save, while
Morgan Hayes was between the pipes in the second half.
The Cardinals will look to make it 14 wins in a row as they return to action on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at The College of Brockport for a non-conference matchup.
