PITTSFORD, N.Y. – For the second consecutive day, the St. John Fisher College men's tennis team picked up a win as the Cardinals swept Elmira College, 9-0, on Sunday at Mendon Pool and Racquet Club. With the win, Fisher climbed to 3-9 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8 standings while the Soaring Eagles fell to 2-10 on the year and 2-3 against conference competition.
In doubles play,
Jonathan Harper and
Dustin McCullough teamed up for an 8-2 win at first doubles while
John Miller and
Jarrett Pelton took second doubles, 8-0.
Tim Christman and
Jordan O'Connell were victorious at third doubles behind an 8-0 effort.
In singles action, Miller battled at first singles before coming out on top, 6-4, 3-6, (10-6) for a point while McCullough cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. At third singles, Harper was perfect at 6-0, 6-0 while Pelton followed suit with a sweep at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Christman was the winner at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-1, and
Michael Zintel won his flight at sixth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
The Cardinals will look to make it three wins in a row at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they take on Nazareth College in an Empire 8 match.
