Softball Allows One Run in Doubleheader Split With Alfred

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Sophomore pitcher Emily Trotman pitched both ends of an Empire 8 doubleheader on Saturday as the Cardinals split with visiting Alfred University at the Softball Complex.  With the split, Fisher finished the day with a 16-13 overall mark and a 7-1 record in Empire 8 action while the Saxons moved to 16-13 overall and 8-4 in the conference standings.

ALFRED 1, FISHER 0

The game's lone run came in the top of the fifth inning after the Saxons were afforded an extra chance following a Fisher error.

In all, Fisher was limited to three hits in the loss with Sarah Kubik going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.  Sammie Torlish, the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week, collected the other hit in a 1-for-2 effort.

In the circle, Trotman moved to 12-7 with the loss after going seven innings and allowing one unearned run on five hits.  Trotman did not yield a walk and finished with three strikeouts.

FISHER 5, ALFRED 0

Trotman was nearly perfect in the circle after picking up her 13th win of the season behind seven strong innings.  In all, Trotman scattered a career-low two hits in the win and retired three via strikeout.

After a scoreless first inning of play, Fisher scored all the runs it would need in the bottom of the second.  Jessica Sardina led off the frame with a single through the left side and moved to second when Abby Flakus followed suit with a base hit of her own.  With two on and one down, Julia Sortisio stepped in and mashed a big three-run home run that cleared the center field fence to put Fisher on top.

In the fifth inning, Fisher added to its advantage with two more runs after Sardina dropped a two-run single into shallow right to make it a 5-0 contest.

Fisher racked up 11 hits in the win with Flakus going 3-for-3 at the designated player position.  Trotman, Sardina and Ashley Prince each had two hits in the win while Sortisio and Kubik had one hit apiece.

Fisher will return to the field at 3 p.m. on Thursday when it hosts Houghton College at the Softball Complex for a pair of conference games.
