Field Hockey Falls To Rochester

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team loss, 4-1, against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at Growney Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Cardinals, who are receiving votes in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, fell to 6-2 on the year while Rochester, who is also receiving votes, moved to 6-4.

Junior Bre Socker netted the lone goal for Fisher in the second quarter. The Liverpool native was set up on a corner by junior Jess Snyder who slid the ball over to Socker up top. The forward ripped one past the Rochester defenders and net minder to put the Cardinals on the board.

Socker's goal was an answer to two early goals by the Yellowjackets. The one-goal game carried over into the second half with the Cardinals on the doorstep to tie things but they were denied by the Rochester defense several times.

The Yellowjackets deposited two goals in the fourth quarter to finish out the game. Socker had a game-high 10 shots to lead Fisher. Snyder's assist on Socker's goal ties her for most on the team with four helpers this season. Senior Kelly Bergamo spent all 60 minutes in net and made three saves.

Fisher will look to bounce back when it welcomes Hartwick College to Growney Stadium for an Empire 8 conference matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
