BALTIMORE, Md. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell in its first game at the Hopkins Invitational at Johns Hopkins University to nationally ranked Drew University, 2-0. The Cardinals dropped to 0-3 in the 2018 campaign, while the Rangers advanced to 3-1.
The Cardinals held off the threatening Drew offense as the Rangers shot nine times with goalkeeper Joe Catalfamo making five crucial saves in the first 35 minutes of play.
Drew would eventually score in the 38th minute of play to put the Rangers up a single goal as the teams headed to the locker room for halftime.
Justin Miles, Dallas Kaiser and Michael Piccarreto tallied the shots for the Cardinals in the first 45 minutes of play.
The Rangers scored their second and final goal in the 65th minute when a Ranger slipped the ball just past Catalfamo from about ten yards out.
The Cardinals rattled off nine total shots in the contest with junior Joe Balls leading the squad with four shots. Kaiser would finish with two shots, while Miles, Piccarreto and Tyler Swartz ripped one shot apiece.
Catalfamo had a strong game in net as he notched a season-high ten saves, but would eventually pick up the loss for the Cardinals.
Fisher is set to play at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday against the University of Mary Washington in the team's second and final game of the Hopkins Invitational.
