Men's Soccer Draws Level at Oberlin Behind Lenahan's First-Half Strike

OBERLIN, Ohio – The St. John Fisher men's soccer team battled back from an early deficit on the road Saturday, as Carter Lenahan's first-half goal squared the match and the Cardinals held on for a 1-1 draw with Oberlin at Shults Field.

How It Happened

Oberlin jumped ahead just 57 seconds into the match, but Fisher settled in and began generating its own chances as the half progressed. Adam Grover tested the Oberlin defense twice in the opening 20 minutes, and the Cardinals kept pushing forward from there.

The equalizer came in the 38th minute when Lenahan buried an unassisted shot to the top of the net, pulling Fisher level at 1-1 heading into the break.

The second half was tightly contested, with both sides trading chances but neither finding the back of the net. Goalkeeper Parker Stusek was called on to make several key stops late, turning away shots in a frantic stretch around the 84th minute that also saw Oberlin clang one off the woodwork. Stusek finished with five saves on the day to help the Cardinals secure the road draw.

Fisher out-shot Oberlin 15-13 on the afternoon, though shots on goal were even at six apiece.
