HOBOKEN, N.J. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 in an Empire 8 Conference matchup. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the Empire 8, while the Ducks move to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Stevens was able to open up the scoring at the 6:49 minute mark of the first half, after three corner kick opportunities.
Tara Marcello notched the first shot and scoring chance of the game for Fisher at the 10:57 mark of the first half, however it was saved by the Stevens goalkeeper.
The Fisher defense stood tall for over 30 minutes of the first 45 minute half, until the Ducks were able to find the back of the net at the 37:37 minute mark before halftime, to earn a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Back-and-forth action was seen by both teams for the first 26 minutes of the second half, until another shot by Marcello was saved by Stevens. The Ducks would then score their third goal of the game, with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game and hold on for their third conference victory of 2018.
Abigail Dwyer finished the game with one shot on goal, while
Melissa McGowan saw just over 80 minutes of action between the pipes for Fisher making four saves and moving her record to 4-2-2 on the season.
Gabriella D'Ambrosio would make two saves in nine minutes of action in relief of McGowan in net.
The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel across town to take on the University of Rochester in another non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
