Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Upended by Rochester in Home Opener

PITTSFORD, N.Y – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team dropped its home opener at Growney Stadium to the University of Rochester Yellowjackets, 2-0. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 0-2-0, while the Yellowjackets jump to 2-0-0.

The first half was fairly even as the Cardinals ripped four shots, one which was on net. Freshman Justin Bonetto rocketed two of the four shots in the half.

Solid defensive play from Dallas Kaiser and Glenn Roschetzky kept the teams knotted at zero headed into halftime. Senior goalkeeper, Joe Catalfamo registered four saves to keep the Yellowjackets from finding the back of the net in the half.

Despite the Cardinals' aggressive second half play, Rochester opened up the scoring with a goal in the 58th minute.

The Cardinals and Yellowjackets would go shot for shot in the latter part of the second half with Bonetto, Roschetzky and Joe Balls recording multiple shots for Fisher. However, Rochester would finish up the scoring with a late goal in the 83rd minute of play.

Fisher would finish the day with eight total shots with Bonetto leading the squad with three of his own. Balls and Roschetzky tallied two apiece, while Tanner Smith added a single shot.

Despite picking up the loss in net, Catalfamo was a wall as the senior recorded nine total stops on the day.

The Cardinals pick back up at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th as Fisher heads to Johns Hopkins University for the Hopkins Invitational where the Cardinals will face Drew University.
