PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team dropped its first Empire 8 Conference match to Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-0. The Cardinals fell to 0-6 on the season, and a 0-1 conference standing. With the win the Ducks advanced to 6-1 and jumped to 1-0 in the Empire 8.
The Cardinals came out aggressive in the first half as Fisher registered three corner kick attempts and a single shot in the first ten minutes of play.
Senior goalkeeper Joe Catalfamo notched three huge saves for the Cardinals to keep the game knotted at zero at the end of the first half.
Michael Piccarreto and Matthew Kaiser tallied Fisher's two shots of the first 45 minutes of play.
The Cardinals held off the Ducks until the 72nd minute of play when Stevens got on the board off a pass through the middle of the Fisher defense.
Stevens tallied two more scores before the end of regulation despite a strong effort from the Cardinal defense.
Fisher finished out the match with four total shots as Justin Bonetto fired a shot on net for the Cardinals in the 48th minute.
Catalfamo registered six total saves in the loss before Justin Miles tallied a single save when he came in to relieve Catalfamo with five minutes remaining.
Fisher returns to non-conference play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18th as the team travels to Buffalo to take on the Spartans of D'Youville College.
