Women's Lacrosse Upended By Montclair State In Final Game In Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs, Colorado – The 16th ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team fell in a back-and-forth matchup on Wednesday afternoon to Montclair State University. With the loss, the Cardinals finish their spring break trip and currently hold a record of 1-1, while Montclair State improve to 1-2 overall.

Fisher came out strong in the first half after their victory of hosts 20th ranked Colorado College, scoring three goals in the first five minutes of the first half. Mary Grace Doyle continued her offensive dominance, putting away two goals in that time span, with Alison Rupp picking up the assists on Doyle's second goal. Kelsie Schindler scored a minute later from the free position and pushed Fisher ahead 3-1.

Both teams traded goals back-and-forth throughout the majority of the first half, until Mallory Eymer took advantage of free position opportunity to tie game up at five. Eymer notched her second of the game less than a minute later, followed by a goal from senior Mackenzie LeVan to put the Cardinals ahead 7-5 heading into halftime. Morgan Young was the fifth Cardinal goal scorer in the half, with Rupp picking up her second assist.

The Cardinals and the Red Hawks traded two goals apiece in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Fisher goals were scored by LeVan and Olivia Marziale from the free position. Montclair State added two more goals to tie the game back up at nine with 19 minutes remaining in the game.

Both teams were held scoreless for more than six minutes until Maria Hristodoulou broke the tie and put Fisher ahead 10-9. The Red Hawks rattled off three straight goals to jump ahead 12-10, until a Schindler goal came just a little too late in order to complete the late comeback.

Molly Maguire played all 60 minutes between the pipes again for the Cardinals, making six total saves in the loss. The senior now holds a 1-1 overall record on the season.

The Cardinals return home this weekend and are back in action on Wednesday, March 13th as they travel down the road to The University of Rochester for a non-conference matchup at 4:30 p.m.
