Eleven First Half Goals Pushes No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Past Brockport

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 20 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team took down SUNY Brockport on Wednesday afternoon at Growney Stadium for its fourth consecutive victory by a score of 16-8. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 5-1 overall on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-6 overall in 2018.

Fisher got the scoring started quickly in the first half as it was able to score seven goals within the first 15 minutes of the opening draw. Seniors Morgan Young and Mackenzie LeVan both notched hat-tricks n the game as the Cardinals scored 16 goals for the third time already this season.

Kelsie Schindler tallied the first goal of the game and 10th of the season only one minute and seven seconds into the game. Young scored the next two goals, one from the free position for her seventh and eighth goals respectively. LeVan followed up at the 15:51 mark with her ninth of the year with Schindler picking up the first Fisher assist of the game.

Fisher was able to then score three goals within a 90 second span, starting with Maria Hristodoulou finishing her fifth of the season at the 18:20 mark. 28 seconds later, Hayley Maguire put away her second of the season, which was followed by Schindler's second of the game giving the Cardinals the 7-0 lead at the halfway point of the first half.

Brockport got on the scoreboard at the 12:08 mark of the first 30 minutes to cut the Fisher lead to six. Mallory Eymer joined the Cardinal goal scorers with her ninth of the season again from the free position. Young was able to finish up her first half hat-trick with just over nine minutes remaining. LeVan found the back of the net just 10 seconds later, this time off of a feed from Young, pushing the Cardinal lead to 10-1.

Junior Olivia Marziale scored her fifth of the season off of a beautiful pass from Claire Bollin, to help the Cardinals bring an 11-1 lead into the halftime break. Fisher outshot Brockport in the first half 14-5, while also leading in the draw control category nine to four.

The Cardinals were able to add to their lead quickly after the second half began, as Bollin notched her ninth of the year only 49 seconds after the second half whistle. Eymer tallied her second of the game, again unassisted. The Golden Eagles rattled off three straight goals in a three-minute span as they cut the Fisher lead to 13-4.

LeVan scored her hat-trick goal at the 16:21 mark with Schindler picking up her second assist and fourth point of the afternoon. Two more Brockport goals at the 11:35 and 7:59 marks cut the Fisher lead again to nine goals.

With 6:45 remaining in the game, Hristodoulou powered her way to the front of the Brockport cage for her second of the game and sixth of the season. Which was followed by Bollin's 10th of 2018 pushing the Cardinal lead back to 10. The Golden Eagles responded with two goals of their own, however time expired with the Cardinals notching their fourth consecutive win.

Goalkeeper Molly Maguire was credited with the victory improving her record to 5-1, as the senior saw the entire 60 minutes between the pipes finishing with six saves.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday when the Cardinals travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on Stevens Institute of Technology in an Empire 8 Conference battle at 1 p.m.
