HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 20 St. Joh Fisher College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 25 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference battle of two top 25 teams by a score of 11-4. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Ducks improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8.
Fisher was able to get on the scoreboard first in the opening 30 minutes, as Logan Chase notched her seventh of the season just 51 seconds into the game. The Ducks tallied the next two goals under a minute apart from each other to regain the 2-1 lead.
Claire Bollin scored her 11th of the season to tie the game back up at two apiece with 22:41 remaining in the first half.
Stevens however was able to gain some momentum and was able to put together a five goal scoring run to end the first half, holding a 7-2 advantage. The Cardinals were held scoreless, even though they were able to get seven shots to the Ducks goalkeeper in the first 30 minutes.
Mallory Eymer opened up the scoring in the second half, the sophomore tallied her 11th of the season to cut the Stevens lead to four goals. The Ducks however were able to hold the Fisher offense stagnant, and score the next four goals of the game.
Chase notched her eight of the season and second of the afternoon, with only 52 seconds remaining in the game, as the Cardinals were held scoreless for the majority of the second half despite posting six shots on goal. Jenna Lippert led the way defensively, posting a team-high three cased turnovers and two ground balls.
Molly Maguire started the game for Fisher in goal finishing her 30 minutes of game time with two saves, while Morgan Hayes saw the 30 minutes of second half action making three saves. Maguire now holds a 5-2 record overall in 2018.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Utica College to take on the Pioneers in another Empire 8 matchup scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
