Men's Soccer Ties Alfred State in Non-Conference Tune-Up

ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team played 110 minutes on Wednesday night as the Cardinals settled for a 2-2 draw against Alfred State in a non-conference match at Pioneer Stadium.  With the tie, Fisher moved to 2-7-2 overall while the Pioneers ended the day at 1-7-2 on the year.

Fisher controlled the tempo throughout much of the first half as the Cardinals were awarded three corner kicks over the first 25 minutes of play.  Head coach Rob Searl's team finally broke through in the 26th minute when Glenn Roschetzky found Matthew Kaiser who delivered a strike into the back of the net to stake Fisher to a one-goal cushion.

Less than nine minutes later, Roschetzky was at it again as the senior blasted a shot past Alfred State's keeper to double the Cardinals' advantage to 2-0.  Brennan Brown was credited with an assist on the play.

The Pioneers wouldn't go away, however, as the home team got one back in the 36th minute as both teams broke for intermission with the Cardinals still holding a 2-1 lead.

Coming out of the break, the lead remained firmly in Fisher's hands until the 84th minute when the Pioneers were able to sneak one past senior goalie Joe Catalfamo to knot the score at two goals apiece.

Following 90 minutes of play, both teams braced for overtime.  After managing just one shot in the first 10 minute frame, Fisher turned up the intensity in the second overtime period.  The Cardinals had two straight corner kicks and fired off two shots in the final minute, but were unable to net the difference-maker as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Catalfamo made his return to the lineup as the senior made three saves over 65 minutes of play.  Justin Miles played 45 minutes and also accounted for three saves.

Fisher will go for its third win in conference play at 3 p.m. on Saturday when it makes the short trip down East Avenue to square off with Nazareth College in an Empire 8 tilt.
