Men's Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss to Alfred in Final Game of Regular Season

ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team rounded out its 2018 regular season schedule with an overtime loss to the Saxons of Alfred University, 2-1. The Cardinals finish the season 4-10-2 overall and sit at 4-3-0 in the conference. The Saxons moved to 6-10 overall and advanced to 5-2 in Empire 8 play.

Fisher opened up the game's scoring with its lone goal of the contest just 13 minutes into the match. Freshman Justin Bonetto sent a long pass through the middle for Tyler Randall to tap in just past the Saxon's goalkeeper.

The Cardinals headed into the locker room at the half up one goal and ripped three total shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

However, Alfred evened up the scoring seven minutes into the second half as a Saxon deflected a shot off of Justin Miles' hands and into the net.

The Cardinals fired two shots and registered two corner kick attempts, but the two teams would need overtime as the regulation period came to a close with the squads knotted at one goal apiece.

Dallas Kaiser tallied the lone shot attempt for the Cardinals in the first ten minute overtime period before Alfred would eventually net the game winner in the 101st minute of play.

Fisher finished out the day with seven total shots, three of which were on goal. Kaiser led the team with three shots, while Bonetto, Randall, Zachary Munski and Brennan Brown each added a lone shot.

Miles suffered the loss in net but registered three stops in net for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals' next stop is the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament in Hoboken, N.J., which is slated to begin on Saturday, November 3rd. Fisher, which earned the fourth seed overall, will take on top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinal round.
