PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Lauren Fazio scored three goals as the St. John Fisher College field hockey team made quick work of The College at Brockport on Tuesday evening as the Cardinals picked up their first win of the 2017 season with a 6-0 decision at Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher improved to 1-1 while the Golden Eagles fell to 1-1 overall.
Four different players tallied a goal in the win led by Fazio who took four shots in all.
Lindsay Scott had a goal and two assists in the win while
Emily Markarian found the back of the net once and added one helper overall.
Bre Socker scored for Fisher and
Reghan Amoroso was credited with an assist.
Fisher took a 1-0 lead just seven minutes in when Amoroso crossed a pass in front of the cage to Socker who beat the Golden Eagles' keeper. Just five minutes later, Fisher struck again as Scott dropped a pass off to Fazio who delivered a strike into the back of the net to double the Cardinals' advantage. The home team would add a third goal just 49 seconds later with Markarian coming away with a loose ball in front of the opposing net before finding Fazio for her second goal of the half.
In the 17th minute, Scott took advantage of a penalty opportunity and buried a shot in the far corner of the goal to extend Fisher's lead to 4-0 heading into intermission.
Coming out the break, Fisher added another goal on a crossing pass with Scott connecting with Fazio to bring it to 5-0 in the Cardinals' favor. The home team continued to pepper Brockport's keeper until Markarian broke free in the 65th minute and delivered a strike into the top corner of the cage to make it 6-0.
Ashley Maynard was credited with the win and the shutout to move to 1-1 overall on the season.
The Cardinals will return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Baltimore, Md. To square off with Johns Hopkins University in a non-conference meeting.
