BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman
Bre Socker and senior All-American
Emily Markarian each had a big day on Sunday to lead the St. John Fisher College field hockey team to a 4-1 non-conference road win over Johns Hopkins University. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Blue Jays suffered their first loss of the 2017 season and moved to 3-1
Socker scored her first goal just under 12 minutes into the game off a corner, with
Lauren Fazio picking up the assist. The Cardinals finished with eight shots in the first half, five of them coming from Socker.
The second half started off with a goal from the Blue Jays in the 46th minute. Fisher then rattled off three straight goals in a matter of five minutes beginning with Socker's second tally of the game in the 64th minute with Fazio picking up another helper in the process. Fisher struck again just three minutes later when Markarian put away her second of the season on a feed from
Reghan Amoroso to make it 3-1 in the Cardinals' favor. Socker then followed up with her third goal of the game just over a minute later after dribbling her way through the Blue Jay's defense before slapping one past the Hopkins' keeper. Fisher outshot Johns Hopkins 19-15 in the game
Goaltender
Ashley Maynard picked up the victory and moved to 2-1 overall. She finished with 10 saves and only one goal against.
Fisher is back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as it welcomes SUNY Geneseo to Growney Stadium.
