PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team secured their third consecutive victory on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium after defeating SUNY Geneseo by a score of 3-1. With the win the Cardinals improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Knights fell to 2-3.
Sophomore
Kelly Bergamo was able to put Fisher on the board first at the 24:44 mark with her first goal of the season, assisted by
Danila Casseri.
Fisher came out strong in the second half, scoring just over three minutes into the second stanza. After a Geneseo turnover at midfield, All-American
Emily Markarian took the ball all the way to the net on a great individual effort, going past two Knight defenders before sliding it past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.
Geneseo cut the Fisher lead to one at the 45:00 minute mark, however just 55 seconds later, Markarian deflected a shot from
Lauren Fazio for her second goal of the game, to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals out shot the Knights 10 to three in the second half and 15 to 10 for the game.
Junior Goaltender
Ashley Maynard stopped two shots and was credited with her third victory of the season.
The Cardinals will return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on Stevens Institute of Technology in their first Empire 8 Conference matchup of the season.
