Women's Volleyball Wins Twice At Fisher Tournament

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College Women's Volleyball team finished 2-0 as they hosted Medaille College and Keuka College for the Fisher Tournament inside Manning and Napier Gymnasium on Saturday. Fisher defeated Keuka in the first match in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-14. The team followed suit and defeated Medaille also in straight sets 25-14, 25-14, 27-25. The Cardinals improve to 15-4 on the year, while the Mavericks fell to 2-16 and the Wolves fell to 4-11.
 
Against Keuka, Anna Marcy led the way offensively putting away 14 kills and hitting .458 on 24 attempts. Fellow seniors Katie Mazierski added eight kills and Madison Karwas pitched in five.
 
As a team the Cardinals finished with 14 aces from the service line, led by Mazierski who had eight. Four of Mazierski's aces came in the middle of third set that helped secure the straight set win for Fisher.
 
Rebecca Hay finished with 33 assists and Mazierski led the way defensively with 13 digs, while Elise Kreuz added 11.
 
The Cardinals came out strong in their second match versus Medaille, finishing the first set on a 21-7 run led by five service aces. As a team, Fisher finished with 12 service aces, as well as not allowing the Mavericks to earn one throughout the match. 
 
Mazierski led Fisher with 16 kills, while Marcy and Erica Pawlewicz added 10 and four respectively. The team again finished with an impressive .343 hitting percentage.
 
Sophomore Phoebe Kane surpassed the 1,000 career assist mark in the game as she finished with 34 and now sits at 1,010 for her career. Defensively, Mazierski and Kreuz led the way both finishing with 12 digs apiece.
 
The Cardinals will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as they travel down road to Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
