ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team fell to Nazareth College on Wednesday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup. The Cardinals were defeated in four sets 14-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-25 and fell to 15-5 on the year and 3-1 in the Empire 8, while the Golden Flyers improved to 12-6 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8.
Katie Mazierski led the way offensively for Fisher as she finished with 13 kills, while fellow seniors
Anna Marcy added nine kills and
Amanda Miller pitched in seven.
The Cardinals dropped the first set, however fought back and jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the second set with the help of two kills each from Marcy and Miller.
Madison Karwas powered the final stretch and put away two kills to help seal the closely contested second set.
Despite leading in the kill department for the match 39 to 38, the Golden Flyers were able to put together timely service aces that helped lead them to victory in the third and fourth sets.
Elise Kreuz led the way defensively for Fisher finishing with 13 digs, while
Rebecca Hay added 29 assists, 11 digs, and three service aces in the match.
The Cardinals are back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as the travel to Utica College for an Empire 8 Crossover where they will take on the Pioneers and then Elmira College at 1:30 p.m. for two Empire 8 Conference bouts.
