Houghton, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team won its fifth straight game this evening as it visited Houghton College in its second Empire 8 matchup of the season. The Cardinals shutout the Highlanders 5-0, improving to 5-1 on the year, while Houghton falls to 3-4.
All-American
Emily Markarian continued her strong offensive play putting away two goals in in the first 13 minutes of the first half. The senior scored her first at the 6:18 mark as she capitalized on a three on one opportunity, with
Bre Socker picking up the assist. Markarian's second goal of the game and eighth of the season came just six minutes later as she took the feed from
Reghan Amoroso and put it into the back of the net.
Socker joined in on the scoring off an
Alyssa Andres assist at the 24:12 mark of the first half as she scored her fifth goal of the season. The Cardinals scored their fourth goal of the first 35 minutes just 59 seconds later when
Lindsay Scott tallied her second of the season off a penalty stroke.
The second half remained scoreless until the 54:17 mark when
Lauren Fazio tallied her fifth of the season, again assisted by Andres to make it 5-0 Fisher.
Ashley Maynard made four saves and improved her overall record to 5-1. As a team, the Cardinals outshot the Highlanders 12 to four in the game.
Fisher is back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, as it welcomes Utica College to Growney Stadium for an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
