PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team were defeated for the first time in five matches this evening by the Rochester Institute of Technology in four sets 25-13, 23-25, 20-25, 21-25. With the loss, Fisher falls to 10-4 on the year, while RIT improves to 7-4.
The Cardinals came out strong in the first set, going on a 10 point run to jump out to a quick 16-6 lead with the help from three
Katie Mazierski kills and six RIT attacking errors; eventually winning the first set 25-13. As a team, Fisher hit a solid .417% with 11 kills and only one error in the first set.
Senior
Anna Marcy led the way offensively finishing with 12 kills in the match, while Mazierski added 10 with 6 of those coming in the first set.
Izzy Smith and
Alex Buhrle pitched in six kills apiece for the match.
Defensively for the Cardinals
Elise Kreuz and Mazierski continued to lead in the dig category both finishing with in double digits, 17 and 11 respectively.
RIT came out strong in the third and fourth sets jumping out to six and seven point leads early on in both sets, which turned out to be the turning points in the match.
Rebecca Hay continued her strong play from the setter position finishing with 29 assists and middle blocker
Amanda Miller added four blocks.
Fisher is back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as it hosts both Alfred University and The Sage Colleges for an Empire 8 Crossover. All three teams will play each other with the Cardinals playing at 11 a.m. and then again at 4 p.m.
