GENESEO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team increased its win streak to six-straight as it downed SUNY Geneseo, 17-5, in a road contest on Friday afternoon. With the victory, Fisher improves to 12-4 on the season.
Over the first 15 minutes, it was a tight battle as both sides netted two goals.
Kelsie Schindler collected both of Fisher's goals, including one on the man-up opportunity. After that though, the Cardinals went on five-goal run to increase their lead to 7-2 at the 5:45 mark. In the waning minutes, Geneseo would net two to Fisher's one and the Cardinals would bring an 8-4 lead into the intermission.
The second half started with a Geneseo goal, but that was the last offense the Knights saw. Fisher would go on a nine-goal tear to finish out the half, three of those coming on free position attempts.
While
Jordan Johnson registered the most points on the night (3G, 3A),
Cori Holbrook turned in a four-goal contest. Also aiding in the offense were
Claire Bollin,
Jenna Lippert,
Jamie Wallace and Schindler, who all ended with two.
Hayley Peets started in net for the Cardinals, recording four saves through 52:46 minutes of play.
Morgan Hayes faced no shots in her final 7:14 of play as the freshman came in to relieve Peets.
Women's Lacrosse has earned the fourth seed in the Empire 8 tournament and will await to see who it plays.
