UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse dropped a 13-6 contest to Utica College Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. With the loss Fisher drops to 8-7 on the season and 3-4 in the Empire 8. Utica improves to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The first half was a tight battle as it ended in a 5-5 tie. Utica netted one in the early minutes only to have it answered by a
Drew Brown goal at the 9:04 mark. The Pioneers increased their lead to 3-1 with 12:50 left in the second but Fisher went on a mini run to earn its first lead.
Riley O'Brien picked up his fifth of the year to cut the lead to one and was that was followed up by an
Andrew Rosso score.
Mitch Rein gave the Cardinals the go-ahead goal with 6:08 left in the half. In the final three minutes before intermission, Utica would collect two more while Fisher nabbed one.
In the second half, Fisher couldn't get its wheels turning.
TJ VanDeusen registered one goal but that was it for the Cardinals as they eventually dropped the conference contest.
Rosso led the way for the Cardinals, scoring a team-high two.
On 50-50 chances, Rein and
Ricky Barton both excelled as they scooped up nine and seven, respectively.
Tanner Swan got the call in net, turning six Pioneer shots aside.
Men's lacrosse will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team closes out its regular season with a tilt against the Saxons of Alfred Universtiy.
