PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team deafeated SUNY Fredonia, 15-6, on a rainy Tuesday at Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher improves to 9-4 on the year while Fredonia moves to 2-12.
It was a close first half, with both teams able to find the back of the net in the opening minutes. The Cardinals notched the game's first tally, but Fredonia responded by collecting four of the next five. Fisher closed out the period well though, scoring four straight to take a 6-4 lead into the intermission.
The second half saw the Cardinal offense spark, with the team netting four in the first 20:47. The Blue Devils stopped the bleeding with one at the 19:38 mark, but Fisher retaliated with another goal-run, this time tucking away five. Fredonia would nab one in the final minute but, Fisher had all but sealed the victory by then.
Jordan Johnson tied a career-high in goals, scoring three in each of the halves. She was aided by
Kelsie Schindler,
Morgan Young,
Mallory Eymer and
Molly Rourke, all of which secured two.
Cori Holbrook also got in on the action as she registered a single goal.
Fisher had a monster day on the draw, controlling 19 of the 23 attempts.
Claire Bollin led the way with an impressive eight controls and was helped by
Abbie Reed who collected three.
When going for 50-50 balls,
Molly Tice and Bollin both had solid outings as they each scooped up five.
Between the pipes,
Morgan Hayes picked up her third win of the season, stopping six Blue Devil shots in her 60 minutes of play.
Women's lacrosse will be back in action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as it squares off in an away battle with Alfred University.
