PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball team ran its winning streak to 10 games on Saturday as the No. 25 Cardinals defeated Utica College in the opening game of an Empire 8 doubleheader at Dugan Yard before having the second game postponed due to rain. Fisher finished the day at 18-6 and 6-0 in the conference standings while Utica fell to 11-11 overall and 5-4 against conference opponents.

The Pioneers halted an 11-inning scoreless drought in the top of the third inning with a solo home run over the left field fence, but the Cardinals responded with three runs of their own in the home half of the inning. After a ground out,
Thomas Pasquale singled down the left field line and scored all the way from first when
Jack Vivinetto mashed a double to tie the game up at one run apiece. Vivinetto advanced to third after another groundout before coming around to score the go-ahead run as
Justin Graham singled him home with an RBI knock through the left side. As the inning continued, Fisher tacked on another run as
Scott Eisenmenger ripped a single to give the home team a two-run lead heading into the fourth.
Utica got one back in the top of the fourth on three hits, but an insurance run by Fisher in the sixth staked the Cardinals to a 4-2 lead.
Jim Dawson took the ball in game one and moved to 4-0 with the win. The sophomore went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Kyle Chambers earned his second save of the season with two scoreless innings of relief.
Fisher begins a five-game road trip at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it travels to Brockport to face the Golden Eagles. The Cardinals bested Brockport, 12-8, on April 12.
