Women's Lax Edged in 2OT by Nationally-Ranked Herons

GENEVA, N.Y. - The No. 14 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team was barely edged, 6-5, by nationally-ranked William Smith College in a double-overtime contest Tuesday evening. This is the first loss of the season for the Cardinals, moving their record to 3-1 on the year.

The first half saw both sides score two goals, with scores from Claire Bollin and Jordan Johnson bookending the period.

Fisher opened up the second half with two early goals by Cori Holbrook and Mackenzie LeVan but the Herons had an answer as they netted two for themselves in the following five minutes. The lead would be overtaken by the Cardinals again with just over 11 minutes left in the period but, once again, William Smith climbed back with a goal at the 2:49 mark to force the first overtime.

As the game went into its first extra period, Fisher found itself with a nice opportunity as Kelsie Schindler lined up to take a free-position shot midway through. The attempt was saved though forcing a second OT in which the Herons would score.

Offensively, both Johnson and Bolln finished with a goal a-piece to lead the way.

In net, Hayley Peets denied 10 opposing shots through just over 66 minutes of action.

Women's lacrosse will return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as they head to Stevens for the team's first conference action.
