ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team defeated Ithaca College in a non-conference battle on Thursday by a score of 3-0. With the win the Cardinals improve to 14-3 overall on the season, while the Bombers fall to 6-10 on the year.
Thursday's game was the last non-conference matchup on the 2017 regular season schedule.
Kelly Bergamo put the Cardinals on the board first with her 6
th goal of the season at the 20:49 minute mark as she took a pass from
Bre Socker and backhanded a shot passed the goal keeper. Fisher outshot Ithaca 10-2 in the first 35 minutes and brought a 1-0 lead into the half.
Emily Markarian scored her 23
rd goal of the season at the 59:46 mark as she dragged the ball around the keeper and slid it into the corner of the goal to put Fisher up 2-0.
Reghan Amoroso followed up four minutes later with her 3
rd of the season as she deflected a pass from
Lauren Fazio past the goaline. Fazio now leads the team with nine assists.
The Cardinals dominated on both ends of the field, outshooting Ithaca 25-4 and only allowing one shot on goal for the entire 70 minutes.
Ashley Maynard was credited with the victory and improves her record to 13-3, as well as posting her 7
th shutout of the season.
The Cardinals are back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, as they welcome Hartwick College to Growney Stadium for Senior Day and the last regular season game for the 2017 campaign.
