ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team dropped its Empire 8 showdown with Nazareth College, 3-0. Fisher falls to 4-11-1 on the year, while dropping to 1-4-1 in the Empire 8 conference. Nazareth moves to 9-4-1 in the 2017 campaign, while jumping to 4-1-0 in the conference.
Melissa McGowan kept Fisher alive early in the first half, stopping seven shots in under ten minutes of play. However, Nazareth jumped on the board just shy of the 24th minute of play, putting the Golden Flyers out in front by one.
Nazareth would score again with about six minutes remaining in the first half of play, when a player crossed a ball to her open teammate in front of the goal to go ahead of the Cardinals by two.
Fisher would take two shots at the end of the half, with Elise Olivo and Kerri Orbach taking a shot apiece.
Nazareth would score the only goal of the second half in the 74th minute, when a player slipped a shot just inside the right post.
The Cardinals would finish with six shots, with four of those on goal on the day. Olivo would finish with two, while Orbach, Shiane Irwin, Emily Murray, and Jackie Romano tallying a single shot in the contest.
McGowan would take the loss in net, totaling a season and career-high 12 saves, over 90 minutes of play.
Fisher returns to their home pitch at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Alfred University, also marking Senior Day for the Cardinals.
