CORTLAND, N.Y. – The 20th ranked St. John Fisher College field hockey team dropped its first game since September 1st, as the Cardinals were defeated by the Cortland Red Dragons by a score of 3-1. With the non-conference defeat, the Cardinals fall to 12-2 on the season, while the Red Dragons improve to 11-3 overall.
Fisher brought in a 12 game win streak into the game that pushed them into the top 20 of the NFHCS national poll.
Three-time Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Ashley Maynard played between the pipes for Fisher, her record is now 12-2 on the year after the junior made 12 saves on the 15 shots she faced.
Cortland started the scoring off at the 17:45 minute mark of the first half off a penalty shot.
The Cardinals responded with a goal of their own at the 30:26 mark of the first half, as
Kelly Bergamo tallied her fourth goal of the season and tied the game up at 1-1.
The game would remain tied into the second half, until the Red Dragons would tack on two goals in the second half at the 59:04 minute mark and the 67:21 mark. Fisher posted 10 shots on goal throughout the game, four of those coming from the stick of
Bre Socker.
The Cardinals are back in action at 12 p.m. Saturday, October 21
st as they host Washington and Jefferson College at Growney Stadium for an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
