AURORA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals in its 7-0 rout of Wells College. The last time Fisher recorded seven goals in a contest was in a 7-0 shutout over Albion College in 2012. With the win, Fisher advances to 4-9-1 overall, while Wells falls to 2-9 on the year.
Fisher jumped out in front early, just nine minutes into the contest. Emily Murray passed a ball from the left side, finding Isabelle DeStefano, who would bury the ball into the lower left corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Cardinals would increase the lead to two just shy of the 36th minute of play, when Makenzie Winslow sent a through ball in from 25 yards out, finding Kerri Orbach to eventually chip the ball up and in over the Wells goalkeeper.
Fisher would turn it up in the second half, scoring five goals in 45 minutes. Elise Olivo found another through ball, then dribbled around the rushing defender and scored the third goal of the match.
The Cardinals would then go on a run, scoring three goals in under three minutes of play. Hannah Buschner would start it off by gathering a deflected cross, and bury her fourth goal of the season in the bottom left corner. The assist would be credited to Murray as well as Elise Olivo.
About a minute and half later, Jackie Romano would breakaway down the left side of the field and find the back of the net in the lower right corner of the goal.
Orbach would net her second score of the game in the 61st minute, volleying in a cross sent in by DeStefano.
Fisher would score its seventh and final goal of the game in the 82nd minute, when Gabriella Borrelli stole an intended clearance pass from the Wells defense and hit the top right corner of the net from 20 yards out.
The Cardinals would finish the day outshooting Wells, 34-5. Logan Chase would record five shot attempts, while Buschner, and Olivo finished with four apiece.
Melissa McGowan would pick up the win in net recording, one save in the first half of play. Lila Platt would come in for the second half, finishing out the match while also tallying one save.
Fisher is slated to travel to Oneonta, playing at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday against Hartwick College in an Empire 8 conference showdown.
