BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team defeated Buffalo State on Wednesday night in a non-league matchup in four sets 20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 18-5 overall on the year, while the Bengals fall to 5-18.
After falling in the first set, Fisher maintained composure and took the remaining three sets with great defensive play as three players finished with double-digit digs.
Elise Kreuz led the way with 19,
Katie Mazierski finished with 17, and
Anna Marcy pitched in 11.
Offensively for the Cardinals, Marcy led the way 13 kills, freshman
Alex Buhrle notched a career-high with 10, and Mazierski added nine.
Fisher claimed the momentum midway through the third set going on a 9-2 run to jump to a 19-14 lead as
Madison Karwas and
Amanda Miller put away two of their seven kills, respectively.
Freshman
Molly Taylor also notched a career-high in assists with 29 from the setter position.
The Cardinals are back at it at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday as they travel to Fredonia to take part in the Fredoinia Tournament to take on Bethany College, followed by the host SUNY Fredonia at 3 p.m.
