Women's Volleyball Splits At Fredonia Tournament

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team played two matches on Saturday as it took part in the Fredonia Tournament. The Cardinals were defeated in their first match of the day by Bethany College in straight sets 25-19, 25-17, 26-24. In their second match, Fisher defeated host Fredonia in five sets 21-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-21, 15-8. With the split, the Cardinals move to 19-6 on the year, while the Blue Devils move to 14-9, while Bethany moves to 18-9 overall.
 
Versus Bethany, Anna Marcy led the way offensively and defensively for the Cardinals, finishing with nine kills and 17 digs. Katie Mazierski pitched in six kills, while Amanda Miller added four. 
 
Libero Elise Kreuz posted 14 digs and setters Phoebe Kane and Molly Taylor added 15 and six assists respectively. 
 
In the five set thriller versus Fredonia, Miller moved into ninth place all-time in career service aces, while Marcy moved into third all-time on the career kill list for the Cardinals.
 
Marcy again led the way offensively with 14 kills, while Mazierski and Izzy Smith each added 11. As a team, the Cardinals doubled up the Blue Devils in service aces 12-6.
 
Taylor was impressive from the setter position notching a career-high 36. Kreuz again led defensively with 25 and Mazierski pitched in 16.
 
The Cardinals are back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for Senior Day inside Manning & Napier Gymnasium as they take on Oswego State in another non-conference matchup.
