The St. John Fisher College field hockey team shut out the Saints of St. Lawrence University 2-0 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday.
Fisher scored two first-half goals, the first coming as a result of a penalty corner from sophomore
Lauren Fazio. From the line, Fazio passed to the top of the circle to
Lindsay Scott, who sent the ball right back down to Fazio. Her first shot rebounded off the goalie, perfectly setting up the second shot which found the back of the cage.
Fisher's next goal began with
Nickole Morgan, who recovered the ball around the midfield mark, sending a pass upfield to Keely Samsonik. The keeper challenged Samsonik who then gave a short pass to
Emily Markarian right in front of the cage to make it 2-0 over the Saints.
Fisher had 22 shots over both halves, compared to St. Lawrence's four.
In goal for the Cardinals was
Ashley Maynard, who recorded two saves and earned a shut out.
Fisher returns to competition at 7 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to take on the Knights of Geneseo in non-conference action.
