Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener

The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell 4-1 to SUNY Cortland in the first game of the Kean University Tournament Friday afternoon. With the loss, Fisher falls to 0-1 on the year while the Red Dragons improve to 1-0.

After finding themselves down 3-0 at half, the Cardinals found some hope in the early goings of the second period. Just under two minutes in, Nicolette Nigro found herself with the ball on the left side of the attacking third. The senior crossed it into the 18-yard box where she found Taryn Guinta, who was able to beat the Cortland keeper and cut the deficit down to two goals. The momentum was unable to hold though, as the Red Dragons scored another later in the half.

Gabriella Cotugno played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Cardinals, recording 13 saves, just one shy of her career best.

Fisher will return to the pitch at 4 p.m. on Saturday as it takes on host Kean at Kean Alumni Stadium.
