The St. John Fisher College softball team captured its 11
th straight win over host Houghton College on Friday evening, holding both games to just five innings.

Pitchers
Lindsey Thayer and
Halie Schoff combined to strike out nine batters in the shutout, only allowing the Highlanders one hit in five innings.
Fisher hit four singles in a row in the second inning, scoring seven runs total.
Danielle Ventrone reached base on a an error, as
Julia Sortisio and
Katie Mazierski each followed up with singles to get on base for
Ashley Prince to hit a two RBI single to centerfield. On the ensuing at bat,
Sarah Kubik singled to center for another RBI. To end the inning,
Jennifer Knaak and
Karlie Neale each tacked on an RBI single.
The Cardinals would score once more in the fourth inning when Knaak grounded out as Mazierski found home plate.
Mazierski led the team going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Prince went 2-for-3 with two runs of her own and three RBI. Knaak also had two RBI.
Fisher 16, Houghton 2
Fisher was off to a hot start in the first inning scoring three runs. Sortisio started with a leadoff single, advancing to second on an error, then advanced to third from a passed ball as Mazierski was up to bat.
Mazierski singled on a bunt, putting two runners on base for Fisher. Mazierski and Sortisio both stole bases on the next play, Sortisio scoring for the first run of the game.
Prince hit an RBI single on the ensuing play, and would later reach home on an RBI double from Neale.
Fisher scored four more runs in the second inning starting with a leadoff single from Krsitina Balsano, who later stole second, and advanced to third on a Sortisio single. Balsano would steal home on the next play, as Sortisio stole second. Mazierski bunted again for a single advancing Sortisio to third, who would then score on the next play. Kubik hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send in the final run of the inning.
The Cardinals scored another four runs in the third inning, all unearned. Mazierski, Prince and Mary Claire Grovesnor combined for three hits in the inning.
Fisher would drive in five more runs in the fifth to guarantee a 16-2 win in just five innings.
Thayer and
Monica Moses combined for five strikeouts and earned just two hits from Houghton.
The Cardinals return home this Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on Ithaca College in a conference doubleheader.
