The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program improved to 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, as the Cardinals came away with an 8-2 win over host Utica College on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Fisher, currently ranked 15th in the latest national coaches poll, moves to 8-1 overall, marking the best start to a season in the program's 17-year history.
Junior
Jordan Johnson led the way for the Cardinals with four goals.
Sierra Badger finished with two points on one goal and one assist, while freshman
Olivia Marziale scored twice.
Cori Holbrook added a goal and led Fisher with four draw controls.  Goalie
Hayley Peets finished the game with three saves and a career-high seven ground balls.Â
Morgan Young also scooped up four ground balls.
Utica took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but the Fisher defense didn't allow another goal until the final two minutes of the game.
Marziale tied the game at 1-1 with 14:26 left in the first and Johnson scored two goals in a 2:16 span late in the half to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead at the break.
Johnson completed the hat-trick earn in the second half, while Badger and Holbrook scored 23 seconds apart with 19 minutes left to put Fisher in control.
Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Hartwick College.
