Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lax Still In Control Of Destiny Despite Loss

Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology scored the game's final three goals, including two in the final two minutes, as the Duck rallied for a 9-8 win over host St. John Fisher College on Senior Day in an Empire 8 Conference women's lacrosse matchup.

With the loss, Fisher, currently ranked 17th in latest national coaches poll, falls to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Ducks improve to 8-6, 4-2.  Despite the loss, the Cardinals still control their own destiny.   If Fisher win its final two games, it will be the No. 1 seed for the Empire 8 Championship and will host the four-team tournament.

Stevens scored two goals in the game's first three minutes.  After a Fisher timeout, the Cardinals got the board with Cori Holbrook's first of three goals on the day,  but the Ducks answered with two more goals to take a 4-1 lead with 21:42 left in the opening half.

The Cardinals scored three goals in the final 14:22 of the first half to tie the game at 4s and tallied the first two goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead.  Mackenzie LeVan gave Fisher its first lead of the day at 5-4 with 24:28 left.   Just over one minute later, senior Sierra Badger scored on a free position shot.

The two teams would swap goal over the next 10 minutes with senior Chrissy Cook scoring with 18:40 left to put the Cardinals up 8-6.   Stevens pulled to within a goal with seven minutes left and tied the game up with 1:45 left on a free position shot.

Stevens regained possession after a Fisher turnover and took the lead with less than a minute to go.  The Cardinals won the ensuing draw, but a shot from Holbrook with less than 10 seconds left was saved.

Jordan Johnson and Kelsie Schindler also scored in the loss.   Molly Maguire stopped six shots in goal.

Fisher will return to action on Friday at Houghton College.
