Fisher Suffers First Loss In Top 20 Showdown

In a matchup between two undefeated teams, both ranked in the top 20 in the latest national coaches poll, No. 15 St. John Fisher College suffered an 11-9 loss to No. 16 The College of Brockport at Fisher's Growney Stadium in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 7-1 overall, while Brockport improves to 7-0.

Jordan Johnson led the Cardinals with four goals, while Cori Holbrook added two goals and one assist.  Jamie Wallace totaled two goals, while Morgan Young also scored.

Chrissy Cook finished with four ground balls, while Abbie Reed caused three turnovers.  Goalie Hayley Peets stopped nine shots.

Fisher led 1-0 and 2-1 before Brockport scored two straight goals to take a 3-2 edge.  After Johnson scored her second goal of the game to tie the game at 3-3, the Golden Eagles scored two straight goals to take the lead for good.

Fisher trailed 7-6 at the half, but Brockport scored three goals to take a 10-6 lead nine minutes into the final period.

Johnson scored with 8:11 remaining and added the game's final goal less than two minutes later, but the Cardinals would only take one more shot for the remainder of the game, as Brockport controlled possession for a majority of the game, thanks to winning 17 of 22 draws.

Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Utica College.
