Women’s Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten, Routs Alfred

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team won its first Empire 8 Conference contest of the season after defeating Alfred University 17-0 at Growney Stadium on Friday.

The Cardinals, who are ranked 15th in the latest national coaches poll, improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play with the win. The Saxons drop to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play following the loss.

Fisher wasted little time in finding the back of the net as Kelsie Schindler fired in a free position shot to put the Cardinals up 1-0 just two minutes into the contest. Schindler would finish the game with two scores, her second one coming just two minutes later on a pass from Chrissy Cook to push the lead to 2-0.

To close out the first half, the Cardinals netted seven different goals from seven different players, resulting in a 9-0 Fisher advantage at intermission.

In the second half the Cardinals continued their dominant performance by adding eight more goals and holding on to the shutout. Fisher's defense stymied the Alfred attack throughout the game, holding the Saxons to zero shot attempts in the entire game.

In addition to Schindler, four others scored two goals in the contest.

Hayley Peets earned the victory and the shutout in net for Fisher. The junior is now 7-0 on the season.

The Cardinals return to action 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a home contest against The College at Brockport.
