Men's Lacrosse Takes Care Of Otterbein

The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse program improved to 2-0 for the third straight year, as the Cardinals rallied over the final three quarters for a 13-7 win over Otterbein College on Wednesday in Clearwater, Fla.

Fisher jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game on goals from Dante Giordano and Drew Brown, but Otterbein scored the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead with 2:49 left in the first quarter.

Fisher tied the game up just over one minute later on a man-up goal from Nick Papayanakos off a pass from Brown.

Fisher scored all four goals in the second quarter to take a 7-3 lead at the break.   Andrew Rosso started the scoring, while Christopher Buschi, who assisted on Fisher's second goal, made it 5-3 with 6:22 left in the second.   Giordano rifled in his second goal of the game just over one minute later and Tim Wagner scored late in quarter to put the Cardinals up four.

Fisher scored three goals in a 98-second span in the third quarter to take control.   Nick Costello scored off a pass from goalie Tanner Swan to make it 8-4 with 10:28 left in the third.  Just over one minute later, Swan cleared the ball from the defensive end and set up Andrew Rosso for second goal of the game.   Fisher's Kevin O'Donnell won the ensuing faceoff and Rosso set up Gary Bova, who one-timed a shot into the right corner to put Fisher up 10-3 and forcing at Otterbein timeout.

Otterbein scored the next two goals, but Fisher sealed the win with three goals midway through the fourth, including two from Papayanakos, who tallied his first hat-trick in a Fisher uniform.

Rosso led the Cardinals with four points on two goals and two assists.

Swanner was solid in net, registering a season-high 10 saves.

O'Donnell led Fisher with eight ground balls and was 13-for-22 at the X, after losing six of his first eight attacked.

Dan Rogers caused two turnovers to lead the Fisher defense.

Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. next Tuesday and will host SUNY College at Brockport at Growney Stadium.
