Eisenmenger’s Homer in the 12th Gives Baseball Its First Win

The St. John Fisher College baseball team grabbed its first win of the 2016 season after defeating Franklin College 4-3 in 12 innings at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, FL.

With the victory, Fisher improves to 1-1 on the season while Franklin starts its season 0-1.

After four scoreless innings, the Cardinals got on the board first as a Frank Carnevale double in the fifth inning drove in Mike Roman and put Fisher up 1-0. In the next inning, Cody Wiktorski hit a solo-shot home-run to extend the Cardinals' lead to 2-0.

The Grizzlies managed to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh off of a two-run home-run.

Then in the ninth inning, Fisher's Joe Simmons made it home on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals a 3-2 advantage. The lead was brief however, as Franklin, facing two outs and the end of the contest, managed to tie the game on a double and send it to extra innings.

Scott Eisenmenger hit a solo home-run in the top of the 12th inning to put Fisher on top 3-2 before Mitch Modlin retired the first three batters in the bottom of the frame to give the Cardinals the one-run victory. Modlin (1-0) was awarded the win for the Cardinals after three innings pitched, three strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Dominick Pisciotto started on the mound for Fisher and pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 10 batters.

Including his game-winning home-run, Eisenmenger batted 3-for-6 in the game, picking up one RBI and one run scored.

Ryan Prevost had a strong showing, going 2-for-4 from the plate while Wiktorski finished 2-for-6 batting including an RBI.

The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow for a double header against Mount Union with the first game set to start at 3 p.m. to be immediately followed by the second contest. Both games will be held at the Chain of Lakes Parks in Winter Haven, FL.
